Almost 6 years ago we celebrated our first son's first birthday. A month later we found out we were having twins. Our journey was taking on a life of its own! We gave birth to boy/girl twins. At 3 years old Colin began speech and occupational therapy and by age 4 was diagnosed with Autism and a rare eye disease called Coat's Disease.
He was then able to attend a special education program, started working with an early interventionist and started seeing a behavioral pediatrician. Without all the organizations, services and people that have helped I don't know where we would be. With the eye exam as part of the process they were able to catch the disease in time saving our son from going blind at 4 years old. The best way I could have described Colin was a gentle soul trapped in an angry body. He couldn't communicate as well as he does now. His days were filled with tears and pain. We now see more smiles and hear more laughter then we have ever seen. All the organizations. therapists, research, doctors and teachers have brought the sweet boy we always knew to be there out for the world to see. That is why this walk means so much to us.
