Prevalence of Autism Spectrum Disorders
Autism and Developmental Disabilities Monitoring Network, United States, 2006

On 12/18/09, the ADDM Network released the prevalence rate of ASDs is 1 in 110, or 1 in 70 males and 1 in 315 females, based on data gathered in 2006. The CDC website contains the detailed report.

These results indicate the need to regard ASDs as an urgent public health concern. The average prevalence of ASDs among children aged 8 years increased 57% from the 2002 to 2006 ADDM surveillance year. On average, ASDs were diagnosed at earlier ages in 2006 than in 2002.
